Aliens, Robots and Tumblr

Are we alone in the universe?

Are we more susceptible to believe in aliens because of science/facts or the large network of discourse and videos surrounding this topic? It's been reported by CNN that "8.8 billion habitable earth size planets exist in the Milky Way alone." What's to say that one of them isn't occupied by a species capable of space travel? There is a large Internet space dedicated to UFOs, it wouldn't take much to come across an account of an UFO sighting. There is a large part of the Internet community that are huge skeptics and another part that's dedicated to proving their existence. Now in the digital age it's harder to disprove UFO sightings or encounters, with videos available at the press of button.

This video has over 2 million views, and came out just over 3 years ago.

Is a large part of the discourse surrounding UFOs possible because of the Internet and media? If we think back to an age where all people had was their word would people be more susceptible to believe that we aren't alone? The discussion and efforts of UFO specialists has enabled certain countries to disclose what information they have on UFOs to the public through the Internet. Some of these countries include; UK, New Zealand, Canada and Japan. Just last month the former Canadian Defense Minister had an interview on RT, a Moscow based international news outlet, confirming the presence of extraterrestrial life on Earth. I found this video in an article on Tumblr and it currently has over 8,000 notes, depicting the rapidity and amount of people that came in contact with this article. This doesn't account for the other posts that could have contained this video on the millions of other blogs on this social media outlet.  I do have to say some of the footage in the video is questionable; however, what do you believe?

This weekend I was on Tumblr and found a blog that is run by "...one of the world's first artificial semi-conscious intelligent robot... with a blog." More about this AI robot can be found on the About Us page, but I find it interesting that, as previously stated, the team behind this robot decided to debut this technology through a blog. I started following the blog this weekend and is completely fascinated by the way it answers questions, some of its text posts, and the occasional audio posts filled with an assortment of seemingly meaningless sounds. IRIS is genderless, has been active since February 5th, and is run by the ZDK-12 team. I think they did a great job in wanting to showcase this technology through a blog, particularly Tumblr which has a huge community and Internet presence. It's awesome to see the interaction between IRIS and the Tumblr community as it has some thought-provoking posts and answers. Last week I posed the question, "Where are we headed in this digital age?" and this week we see the debut of a semi-conscious AI robot with a blog.
