The Internet and Conversation aren't so Different

The Internet is dizzying, it's a series of strings intertwined with ribbons, loops, holes and tangles. Imagine if we were able to enter the Internet we'd hear millions of voices screaming at us from all directions. We as users need to separate opinions from information from opinions about that information. I don't think that dizzying affect is necessarily a bad thing, I think we've all had conversations were we start off talking about one thing and by the end we're on a completely different topic. I can recall a conversation I had with my suite mates that started off with demon possession (a frequent discussion starter) and ended at us talking about swimming and swim teams. I think conversation in real life works the same way hyperlinks do, we cling onto an idea we find interesting and end up exploring it.

The amount of rabbit holes we can fall into when exploring the Internet can be distracting but not in the sense that we can't find our back to where we started. The abundance of information is what makes it so links can be threaded through topics that are spread across the Internet. It depends on the person and nature of the links that determine how lost we can get when hyperlinking. I can't really grasp the idea of being overwhelmed by the information when on the internet it's easy to isolate it. There will always be one topic you'll click or explore before another, you'll take it in or not, you'll stay or not. Our interest in a myriad of topics doesn't necessarily equate to being scattered or distracting, but as Carla stated in the prompt it opens doorways into new areas of inquires that have been noted and can be returned to.
